Patenting For Economic Development: An Assessment Of The Awareness And Utilization Of Patents By Nigerian Researchers

Completion Stage: Completed

Completion Date: December, 2007

Abstract

The research is aimed at assessing the knowledge of Nigerian Researchers about protection of inventions through patenting and their level of utilization of patent documents in research. The study is expected to provide the baseline information on the current understanding of the researchers on patent matters, establish the proportion of patentable Research and Development (R&D) results by Nigerian Researchers, evolve strategies for the enhancement of the capacity of the Nigerian researchers to generate patentable Research and Development (R&D) outcomes and form the basis for the development of a monograph for Nigerian researchers, which would promote the employment of patent as a bridge between universities, polytechnics and research institutes on the one hand and industry on the other hand.
