NACETEM TAKES PART IN NEPAD/ASTII TRAINING

NACETEM was represented at a training organised by the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) from 2nd to 5th October, 2011, in preparation for the phase II of the African Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (ASTII) project. Issues discussed at the training included: observations from the first phase of ASTII and the need for countries to treat the STI indicators as important, countries that were not represented in the first innovation outlook, measurement of Research and Development (R&D) personnel.

The following resolutions were made: R&D should be extended to higher institutions, research institutes and the business sector, reports of the above sectors should be made ready before June 2012 in order to be able to come up with the second innovation outlook, a uniform questionnaire be produced for all countries for ease of international comparison, all countries should forward/submit their work plan for the second phase of the study for NEPAD to be able to come up with the needed financial supports for the project, 2010 innovation report should be made ready before the end of year 2012 and countries should feel free to contact the NEPAD office for clarification on any issue relating to the project.
