NACETEM REPRESENTED AT BRIEFINGS ON CLIMATE CHANGE by MIT CLIMATE CoLab

NACETEM was represented at the briefings organised by Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Climate CoLab - the climate crowdsourcing arm of the MIT Centre for Collective Intelligence -  between 22nd  and 26th January, 2012 at the Capitol Hill and the United Nations (UN) plaza.
NACETEM’s representative, Mr. Maruf Sanni, was chosen to represent a team of three from NACETEM which had submitted a proposal to Climate Colab in a competition organised on how the 21st century economy would evolve to meet the risks of climate change. The proposal had recommended an ambitious project of climate-proofing sustainable agriculture in Africa. The basic idea of the project is to inculcate climate change education into the activities of small-scale farmers through extension agents, undergraduate and postgraduate students, so as to enhance food security on the continent.

Mr. Sanni presented the proposal at the UN Plaza in New York and the US House of Representatives in Washington DC and the proposal was well received at both events. The briefings also included a video conferencing with the staff of United Nations Framework for Climate Change at Bonn in Germany.  Mr Sanni and other members of the group will follow up on the proposal with the MIT Climate CoLab and also hope to convince government agencies, non-governmental organisations and regional bodies to fund these innovative ideas.
